** and also Tiger member Aidan Kovenklioglu who qualified at this year's European Championships in May and decided to make the trip over to America after all **

Pinehurst, North Carolina

31st July - 2nd August 2008

After earning their places on Team GB & Ireland, Ella, & Callum, along with Aidan competing as an individual, set off to America to take on the world and all did the Tigers and Mill Green proud.  The hot and humid weather, grabby grass and slippery greens all combined to make it a great test and learning experience for these three young golfers.

The tournament started off with a parade down the main street of Pinehurst with each participating country's flag flown at the front of the team by one of the team members.  Speeches followed the parade as did an early night in order to get ready for the next day's start of the competition golf.

Ella’s age group played 3 lots of 9 holes on the back nine of Whispering Pines golf course which featured water on many of the holes.  After getting used to the conditions on the first day Ella worked her way through the field on days 2 and 3 to finished 18th out of 76 including a top 10 finish on day 3.

Callum also had a great experience getting used to the quick greens on day one to shoot an incredible 78 on day 2 followed by a respectable third round which meant he finished comfortably in the top half of the field at the Pinehurst #6 golf course. Aidan was also comfortably in the top half playing consistent over the 3 days as he took on competitors in his age group on the Little River golf course.

All three had plenty of fun, met and exchanged pins, signatures on flags and handshakes with kids from all over the world. All in all it was a great experience and they each have plenty of new entries for their three shot diaries.

The Tiger Club at Mill Green can now claim to have 5 different Tigers to have competed at world championship level. Former Tiger William Aldred has been to the US Kids every year for several years with this year his last appearance as he becomes a teenager soon. Ella, Callum and Aidan have now each made their first appearances this year as did Joshua Taylor who competed in the rivaling Callaway world championships out in California earlier this summer. See the separate news item on how he got on.

I believe Ella, Callum, Aidan, Josh and William all started as young 5 year old Tigers. Their successes here along with the many great successes by several of our other Tigers at Mill Green, will hopefully inspire the rest of you to keep up your interest in the game, and soon it will be your turn for the headlines!

Ella scores:  R1 +8, R2 +2, R3 +2 = +12 and a T18th (of 76 starters) overall place for Girls 10
