2008 Wee Wonders - Tiger Results Regional Results National Final |
|
This year's final did one better than last as three Tigers qualify for Team Wee Wonders GB & Ireland in the 2009 World Championships at Pinehurst USA !
Joshua Taylor / Ella Ofstedahl / Georgia Oboh
Tiger Nicola Callendar made the trip to St Andrews to support the other 4 Tigers in this year's Wee Wonders final. Nice to have you there Nicola !
The highlight of the weekend in St Andrews was the crowning of the new UK & Ireland boys 9-10 champion, our own Joshua Taylor. A hot putter helped Josh to take the first round lead at a fantastic field leading 3 under gross 27. His form continued during the more difficult playing conditions of Day 2 as he once again turned in another great score of 1 over par increasing his overall lead to 3 and taking the honors.
In his first attempt, Josh was able to sweep aside an extremely strong field of 9-10 boys including one former world champion so we should be very proud of his achievement as he leads the way to Pinehurst next summer in the 11 year old Boys category.
In the 9-10 girls category, Ella Ofstedahl finished in third place overall. Ella started with a hot putter of her own on Day 1 shooting a 1 over par which left her only one shot off the pace overnight. The Tiger double was not to be however as Day 2 turned out to be a struggle for Ella but she still finished high enough to make the 11 year old girls Pinehurst team next year as the second best 10 year old.
New Tiger, Georgia Oboh made it a hat trick for Pinehurst as being one of the younger ones in the 8 & under girls category, her results were good enough to make the 8 year old girls Pinehurst team next year.
Callum Walker, also competing in the Boys 9-10 category, managed a 7th place finish this year with his 4 over par 64. A great score but not quite enough in this most competitive field.
To top off the successful weekend, all 4 were members of the England East region team who won this year's team event! A look at the photo will also show ex-Tiger William Aldred as one of the team so not a bad turnout for the Tigers! William won the Boys 11-12 year old title this year and became the most successful Wee Wonder finalist to date winning a total of 4 titles over his Wee Wonder career.
