Two Tigers qualify for Team Wee Wonders GB & Ireland in the 2008 World Championships at Pinehurst USA !
The Tiger Club, Mill Green Golf Club and even Crown Golf all had cause for celebrations as two of their own have both finished in the prizes and secured places on Team Wee Wonders GB & Ireland and will now compete in the US Kids World Golf Championships in Pinehurst, North Carolina USA next summer.
Colin Montgomery was on hand to present the winners prizes for the Wee Wonders National final held at St Andrews par 30 Balgove course.
At 5 over par for the two rounds, Ella finished in a 3 way tie for the top spot in her Girls 9-10 category and on count back was awarded second place. Finishing as the top 9 year old means she will also take her place on next year's team in Pinehurst where she will compete in the Girls 10 year old age group. This was Ella's third National Wee Wonders final - last year finishing 3rd and just losing out on a place on the GB team on count back. This year's 65 (34 / 31) was also good enough to beat all the 11-12 girls at the final as well so it was a great achievement by all the top three.
Shooting 12 over par 72 (39 / 33), Callum finished in 3rd place on count back in the Boys 7-8 category and also secured his place for next year's Boys 9 year old age group so will be joining Ella at Pinehurst next year. This was Callum's first Wee Wonders final and one he will always remember.

The first day ...
Although sunny, the strong winds played havoc with many shots out on the course and club selection was key to reaching the greens. Callum ended up 9 over par and in a 3 way tie for 6th which meant he found himself out in the first group for the next day but only 5 shots behind so anything could happen. Ella started with a great birdie on the first and then held it together the rest of the way finishing up in 2nd place overnight at 4 over par 3 shots back of the leader. This was a great result given she had to recover from big trouble off the tee on the 6th and meant she made the final group the next day. The final day ... The wind had calmed down from the previous afternoon's blustery conditions but still affected play on day two out there. Callum's impressive second round score of 3 over par propelled him from his overnight placing straight up to being tied for 3rd but winning on count back to secure his 3rd spot finish. With 9 talented young boys in his group, it was a great achievement to finish only 3 shots back of the winner in what was Callum's first appearance at a Wee Wonders final. With Callum playing in the group behind Ella, the Ofstedahl & Walker familes had a chance to keep an eye on both player's during the morning's play. We knew Callum was doing well as he kept coming over to tell us and we had trouble keeping him inside the roped off course! Great fun though and it was obvious he was enjoying himself at St Andrews. As for Ella, she again birdied the first hole and after another birdie at the 3rd had clawed herself a shot closer to the lead. A par on the 7th was enough to get another shot back and a few minutes later the 3 players in the final group found themselves on the 9th green, each with a putt to win. Ella just missed hers and tapped in for par leaving her on 31, one over for the day. Ella's putt was followed by the overnight leader's who also missed but it was then the girl from Wales who took her opportunity by making her birdie putt to leave all three players tied on 5 over par for the competition. However, with a level par 30 on the last day, the title went to the Welsh girl leaving Ella in second and the overnight leader from England south back in 3rd. A fantastic (and extremely tense) finish on the final green. Well done to both Callum and Ella who will be great ambassadors for the Tigers while over in America. ![]()
