Mill Green Juniors Jeddah Cup Team

 
As you have already heard from Ian, Mill Green Juniors have been invited to join a select group of clubs in Hertfordshire to participate in the Jeddah Cup. This is a league competition where Mill Green along with four other clubs will play each other home and away through the Spring and Summer in fourball better ball matches. The key feature of this competition is that it is for Juniors with handicaps in the 18-36 range. So this is a fantastic opportunity for our high handicap Juniors AND our better Intermediates to get valuable match experience on full 18 hole courses around the county and prepare them to potentially break through to the Junior A team.

Both boys and girls are eligible to play in the team. The matches will be played off the men's tees and stroke indices but the girl's handicaps will be adjusted to take account the difference in SSS between the mens’ card and the ladies'. Each Club will field 8 players and 2 reserves to make up four pairs - the reserves will always get to play but their results will not count towards the final score in the match.

Because of the particular nature of this competition, with eligibility depending on a handicap criteria, we cannot guarantee any player will be able to play for the whole season. So I do not propose to appoint a permanent captain for the team. Instead I propose to select a team for each match and appoint a captain for the day from that team. This should give a number of our Juniors the experience and responsibility of being captain.

The fixtures have all been arranged with the other clubs now and the fixture list is attached to the bottom of this note. Several of the fixtures will be on weekdays during the half term and summer holidays so I am going to have to rely heavily on parent volunteers to help organise and transport the team. However, experience from the Tigers makes me confident that the help will be there from you when I need it.

The first fixture is on Saturday 31st May at home to Aldwickbury Park with the first tee time at 13:04. A list of potential team members is posted on the Juniors’ notice board. Please indicate whether or not you are available on the list.
