Tiger Match Report ... Back to Results 2008 |
|
Tigers Vs Men The second annual Men vs. Tiger's match was held and produced another great match promoting unity between the sections of the Club. Luckily the rain stayed away until after the final group were in, so despite the very windy conditions (which favored the longer hitting men we have to say!) it was alright out there. The Junior team poached two of the Tiger's team member's on the day to cover an away Junior fixture but the depth of the Tigers playing on the main course meant that reserves were able to be called upon and the Tigers were still able to field a full team. The match was played from the back tees over the front nine and under normal four ball better ball match play format. The Tiger girls played from the red tees but off the men's stroke index. Because of that, they received one courtesy shot, but as you will read later - they didn't need it! The match ended with food and drink followed by nearest the pin prizes for Ray Lister for the men and Sian Hulse for the Tigers. Ella O and Mark J gave the Captain's speeches and handed out the chocolate for the Tigers while Men's Captain Gwyn Ellis confirmed his thorough enjoyment of the match, despite his defeat at the hands of a couple of young girls (which the rest of the committee will now not let him forget). It is clear that this fixture will remain an important event in the Club Diary each year now. Thanks to Viv for organising since I was actually taking part again ! Unfortunately, we forgot the camera so no photos this year.
Darryl & Viv Captain Ella and her partner Rosie for the Tigers had the pleasure of playing in the first group against the men's Captain Gwyn and men's Treasurer Steve. The Tigeress's didn't give the men a look in as they never lost a hole and took the match 3&2 getting the Tigers on the board with their first point. Gwyn commented that in all his matches, he had never come up against a stronger pair but was delighted to have played with them. Match 2 saw Tigers Callum & Jarvis clawing their way back from two down after 4 to be all square after 6 against the Men's Vice Captain Phil and Ian's dad Alan. Still all square on the 8th tee, the men made use of their only shot as a nett birdie from Alan on the long 8th took them dormy 1 on the 9th before the Vice Captain sealed the victory with a final par. Final score men 2 up. In Match 3 it was Tigers Louix and Will taking on Dave R & Rob C from the men. The windy conditions favoured the men as they took this one 3&1. Ben & Sam went up against a couple of Tiger Dad's John H & Tim T (bandits !) who I understood dove tailed well with their gross birdies along the way leaving little chance for the Tigers as they closed them out 5&3. Not much anyone could have done against that sort of play. Match 5 was a great come back for Tigers James & Liam as they stood on the 7th tee 2 down and 3 of the most difficult holes left to play. Ray F & Ray L left their lead slip and after the 9th they were all square. Ray L did manage to retain his nearest the pin prize on the 5th. The final group of Tigers Sian & Mark took on myself and fellow tiger dad John H. Although they all had shots off of me, I needed them more than my playing partner who held up our end well getting the men back to all square on two occaisions. Unfortunately, gross pars were not good enough against Sian and Mark who went ahead 3 separate times in the match leaving them dormy on the last tee. Again, par on the 9th was simply not enough to get it back to all square so the Tigers took another point. So the Tiger girls faired the best out there today winning both the matches the 3 of them were involved in. Final match score Men 3.5 / Tigers 2.5 Great fun.
