Tigers Vs Stevenage
Away Match Report
Monday 2nd July 2007
Lost 3.5 - 5.5
The first leg of this year's challenge cup home & away matches
against Stevenage saw the Tigers just losing the trophy by a margin
of 3.5 to 5.5. This was a great result considering that during the
presentation, Stevenage admitted they did not want another loss and
had therefore included a few 'sneaky' team selections in their line
up. Let's just say that it hadn't 'escaped our attention' but trust
that the older players will let more of their younger par 3 juniors
out to play next time.
In any case, it is not about winning, its about getting a chance to
experience golf as a member of a team in what otherwise is an
individual sport in nature.
The course was in good condition and somehow the rain held off for
us all to get around. We enjoy playing away and it was a great
chance for many of the Tigers to experience playing in amongst the
trees as the fairways are quite tight providing a different golfing
experience than around Mill Green's Romany nine.
Many thanks to Stevenage for getting a team together at short notice
as they filled in for Effective Golf who had to cancel at the last
minute due to their course being unplayable at present.
Sorry, no photos were taken on the night as my cameras were up the
creek!

The individual matches played out as follows:
In match 1 Jack and Greg unluckily drew Stevenage's main course
Junior team Captain and his partner but managed to only lose 3&1. In
match 2 Lewis and Sam had worse luck as the players they came up
against were 3 under after the first 5 holes leading to their 5&4
loss.
In match 3 Max and Callum were not really firing on all cylinders
and their opponents took the points as they came up short losing
2&1.
Match 4 finally produced some points with Tigers Josh & Elliot
coming out 2&1 winners in a close one. A great result for Elliot
playing in his first match for the Tigers. Match 5 saw Nicola and
Megan playing the only girl Stevenage had out today beating her and
her partner 4&3 to bring the Tigers a bit closer.
Harry & Sam unfortunately then ended up on the wrong end of 4&3 win
for Stevenage but Thomas and Andrew got another back for the Tigers
taking their match 2&1. Ben & Matt, another first timer, earned
themselves a great half for the final Tiger points as Ella & Rosie
went down 4&3 in the last match struggling to match the birdies &
pars of their opponents.
All in all a good away result for the Tigers who look forward to the
rematch back at Mill Green when perhaps we'll get our own Dave Wells
to squeeze into a Tiger shirt for the day! Just kidding Dave!
Thanks to Viv for organising the match.
