Tigers Vs Millers
Home Match Report
Friday 13th April 2007
Won 4.0 - 2.0
Friday the 13th is unlucky for some but not the Tigers as they
clinched bragging rights in the clubhouse after securing a well
deserved 4.0 to 2.0 over Mill Green's own Millers Senior section.
Losing on the par 3 last year was all but forgotten as the Tigers
took the Millers on over the Front nine of the main course this time
showing them they had a long game as well as a short.
Sandwiches & chips followed the match after which honorary Tiger
member and President Leo Smith opened the speeches once again proud
of the Tiger etiquette and achievements. It was then Tiger Boys
Captain Jack Grogan who made his thank you speech before finishing
up with some kind words from Millers Captain Barry Pasby. Barry
presented Tom Ryan with the nearest the pin prize and then had the
'pleasure' of announcing that his team had been on the losing end of
an enjoyable, well played and closely fought match.
They look forward to next time and to getting more shots as the
Tigers handicaps will undoubtedly fall again soon.
Darryl & Viv
The individual matches played out as follows:
Honorary Tiger and Club President Leo Smith was recruited to play
with the Tigers and he and Tiger Boys Captain Jack lead the first
group out against the Millers Captain and his team mate. A close
match with Leo giving Jack all the credit for the 1/2 point earned
for the half.
Match 2 saw Millers getting their only win as Max & Neil were beaten
by Millers Vice Captain & his partner 3&2. Match 3 went to the
Tigers helped by a birdie from Nicola as she and Leigh finished 1 up
winners and brought the overall match back to level.
Match 4 was all square on the 9th tee and with Ella & Tom in for par
the Millers needed to sink a long putt for the half which they did
get so the whole match stayed at level with 2 groups to go.
Tigers Tom & Lewis stood on the 9th tee 1 up in match 5 and a half
on the last left them 1 up victors with now only 1 group to come.
News had already come through the Tigers last pair of Joe & Josh had
been 2 down with 3 to play so we were not sure what was the state of
play was but saw the Tigers had the honour on the 9th tee. We all
watched then as Joe finished the hole by tucking away his 6 foot par
putt which the Millers were unable to match. 3 straight wins for the
Tigers also left them 1 up winners and the overall result secure.
A close but great result for the Tigers. Well done to you all.
Thanks to Viv for organising the match.
