Captains Away Day Shootout
It was a sunny albeit brisk morning out at Lamerwood Golf Club this year as the Girl Captain's team was able to retain the Captain's Away Day Shootout cup for the 2nd year running by edging out the Boy Captain's team 4.5 to 3.5 The Captains had chosen their teams from those entered to play by taking alternate picks and then submitting their pairing orders to the match organizer. A review of the selected teams lead to our decision to let some players have a courtesy shot on each hole to level the playing fields which worked well as it was a seesaw match finishing very close in the end. Lamerwood's Pinewood Academy course is a tricky buy fun 9 hole par 27 which runs through the trees for the first 5 holes after which it then opens up for the closing 4. The ground was still fairly damp given the recent rain so the scoring was not as low as expected but that did not affect the fun which after all is the main objective. Nearest the pin prizes were available for both the boys and the girls on separate holes with young Daniel Aves finishing only a couple of feet away to win the boys. Nicola managed to keep her tee shot on the 9th green with many others rolling off to the left. Rumours that Tyron had kicked it back on were greatly exaggerated and Nicky deservedly won for the girls. To finish, it was hot chocolate and lunch in the Sashimi restaurant followed by the prize giving.
Thanks to the usual marshalling & spectator crowd. It is great to see you turn up ready and willing week in / week out and it is much appreciated.
Darryl & Viv Note: 1 shot per hole given for the match
